“Initially, the plan was to portray the character of Shanmugham as a cab driver in Madras. But it was Mohanlal sir who suggested to present this person as a fighter. Sir said if shown as a stuntman, there will be more originality for the stunts," Renjith explained, adding that the whole team agreed with the suggestion.

Before the shoot commenced, Mohanlal chipped in with another suggestion, “All fighters before the fight, bow to the land and say Muruga with their hands placed over their heart. He asked if he should incorporate this too in the film? Tharun and I felt that it would be good. The impact it created in theatres was huge,” the producer explained.

The film is scripting a success story at the box office and also winning much appreciation from cine-goers in Kerala. KR Sunil has penned the movie, which also features Prakash Varma and Binu Pappu in other key roles. Mohanlal's performance as Shanmugham is being hailed by fans, who are celebrating the return of vintage Lalettan.

Mohanlal's first release of the year was Empuraan, which also emerged as a success despite running into controversies and drawing the flak of right-wing supporters.
