Varanasi is one of the most anticipated films from Indian cinema. While the makers had unveiled the release date a few days back, the star-studded cast had spoken about the film to a variety of medias from the West. Actors Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran lead the cast of Varanasi, with director SS Rajamouli wielding the megaphone.

Varanasi: What did Prithviraj Sukumaran say about SS Rajamouli’s working?

Varanasi is the next big thing that filmmaker SS Rajamouli has to offer to Indian cinema. After giving blockbuster successes like RRR and Baabubali, the director’s Varanasi has already sparked conversations with its teaser reveal. A cast comprising of Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, lead the project, which is expected to be a globetrotting adventure drama.

Speaking to Collider, Prithviraj commented on SS Rajamouli's filmmaker, "For all the grand visuals and the sheer scale of imagination that his films carry, I have realised that as far as possible he sticks to the simple basics for his filmmaking. I have never seen him setting up a gimmick, or unnecessary track moment. It is about classical filmmaking done right. There is no escape mechanism there.”

Prithviraj plays Kumbha, a wheelchair-bound antagonist in the film. It marks the first time the actor is pairing up with Rajamouli, and other lead cast members.

Varanasi release date: When is it hitting big screens?

The wait is a little longer for Varanasi as the film is not set to release this year. With the production underway, Varanasi will hit theatres on April 7, 2027. It will also be return to Indian cinema for Priyanka Chopra Jonas who was seen in 2019 The Sky Is Pink.

Varanasi is expected to be high on grand visuals, and has music by MM Keeravani. With elements of time travel and made on lavish budget, the film is expected to revolve around a Shiva devotee who traverses across eras and places to become the saviour of world from evil force.
