Last year’s Christmas presentation from Kannada cinema was Hattrick Hero Shivarajkumar’s Vedha. The debut production under the actor’s Geetha Pictures, Vedha was a joint venture with Zee Network, which means that the digital and satellite rights of the film rest with Zee5 Kannada and Zee Kannada, respectively.

The A Harsha directorial, which released on December 23, 2022, is currently in theatres and, according to trade experts, is the film of the year end to do good business at the box office. A period film set in the 60s and 80s, Vedha has a fair share of violence, as Shivarajkumar, in the title role and Aditi Sagar as Kanaka, go on a murder spree, with a cop played by Veena Ponnappa hot on their trail.

Vedha is choreographer-director Harsha’s fourth film with Shivarajkumar, after Bhajarangi, Vajrakaya and Bhajarangi 2. The film was marketed as the Century Star’s milestone 125th film, although, in chronological order, it is technically the 124th. Bairagee was 123 and Nee Sigoovaregu was meant to be 124, followed by Vedha in its designated spot at 125th film. The romantic entertainer Nee Sigoovaregu, directed by Raam Dhulipudi, which pairs Shivarajkumar with Mehreen Pirzada, is yet to fix a release date.

Although Vedha is still in theatres, there’s buzz surrounding its streaming date. Reports suggest that Vedha’s Zee5 Kannada premiere will be on February 17. The network, of course, is yet to confirm this.

Meanwhile, Shivarajkumar has been busy working on director-actor MG Srinivas’ next, Ghost. The team has already completed two schedules, so, in all likelihood, this will be the actor’s next theatrical release. In his Kollywood outings, the Century Star will soon be seen in Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer and in Dhanush’s Captain Miller as well.

Back home, he has composer Arjun Janya’s directorial debut lined up, as well as films with directors Lohith H, Sachin Ravi, among others.
