Veerappan The Bandit King on OTT: Actor Kishore reprises his role as the slain forest brigand in the 6-episode first season of the series on the infamous sandalwood smuggler

Kannada filmmaker AMR Ramesh, who made a film on the slain forest brigand Veerappan back in 2013 called Attahasa, is back with his favourite subject. This time, Ramesh is presenting the tale of the sandalwood and ivory smuggler in a web series format. Called Veerappan The Bandit King, the first season of 6 episodes is now available to stream on Waves OTT in Kannada, Tamil and Hindi for free.

What does the web series Veerappan The Bandit King entail?

The first season of Veerappan The Bandit King is told from the perspective of a Criminal psychology student, who decides to make the forest brigand her dissertation subject after she hears of the demise of Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, whose business dealings were alleged to have led to his father Dr Rajkumar’s kidnapping at the hands of Veerappan. She sets out to research the subject by speaking to people who knew Veerappan before his encounter killing in 2004. Director Ramesh says that the first season will end with the news of the appointment of Shankar Bidari as the Karnataka Task Force head in charge of capturing Veerappan.

Actor Kishore, who played Veerappan in Attahasa is back as the smuggler, while the cast also includes Suchendra Prasad, Srinivas Murthy, Laxmi Raai, Suresh Oberoi, among others. According to the filmmaker, the plan is to execute the story in 3 seasons, with roughly 18 hours of footage.

Season 2, he’d said will detail the operation to nab Veerappan both by the Tamil Nadu special task force and their Karnataka counterparts. When OTTplay spoke to Ramesh recently, he was in the process of finalising cast for the next couple of seasons.
