The actor to watch out for this year is Vijay Varma, who will star with Alia Bhatt in the upcoming dark comedy Darlings. He is known as the quintessential "grey man" of Bollywood. In a recent interview with a leading newspaper, Varma discussed the casting of the movie and his first day on the set.

Varma said that they all gathered around like a hive of honeybees because the story was good. He plays Hamza, a character who is a TC who works for the government. When he arrived on set the first day, the legendary Anil Mehta made him a frame instructing him to clean the bathroom in the first take.

In addition to his ascent to stardom as Moeen Bhai in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy in 2019, Varma has created the most iconic characters for viewers to remember him by, working with renowned filmmakers. Like She by Imtiaz Ali, Yaara by Tigmanshu Dhulia, Ok Computer by Anand Gandhi, A Suitable Boy by Mira Nair, and many others.

The gifted performer explained how to approach directors when asked, saying that when he did have the desire to collaborate with a few filmmakers, it was slowly and gradually realised without him taking many steps in that regard. The actor wanted to collaborate with Tigmanshu Dhulia, Zoya Akhtar, and Imtitaz Ali. He is currently collaborating with Sujoy Ghosh on a film starring Jaideep Ahlawat and Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Speaking about his interactions with Shah Rukh Khan, who has co-produced Darlings under his home banner, Red Chillies Entertainment, Varma said that while the superstar was in London, he made a friendly call to him. SRK called him after seeing the movie and said, "Yaar Vijay kaise ho?" The superstar thanked him for doing this film and expressed his admiration and happiness. Working with such exceptional talent is a privilege for Varma. Shah Rukh also linked Satish Shah in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro to Varma's work. The Gully Boy actor concluded that SRK would probably meet them when he returns from London.

Darlings with Alia Bhatt, Devotion of Suspect X with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Dahaad with Sonakshi Sinha, Sumit Saxena's untitled next, and Mirzapur season 3 are among the intriguing projects he has coming up.
