Sheiladitya Moulik’s film Surjo which stars Vikram Chatterjee, Darshana Banik, and Madhumita Sarcar completed 100 days in theatre since its release. The film delves into a love story between these characters. To celebrate the long run of the film, the cast members – Vikram and Darshana – gathered at a lake-side cafe in Kolkata.
Vikram and Darshana cut the cake. While addressing the media, the actor thanked the audience, filmmakers, and others who supported the film. “For many years I have always wanted to act in Bengali cinema. I have been working in films for the last three years. It is so fulfilling,” he said.
Darshana also expressed her gratitude to her audience. She said, “It is great news for our industry that a film has a successful run for 100 days. Initially, we were not sure if it would run for 25 days. And all this while, many Bengali films were used. The big banner Puja releases were there and yet Surjo ran for 100 days. We all are very happy and proud.”
The film is a remake of the well-known Malayalam film Charlie. It was remade in Tamil as Maara where Madhavan plays the lead. In the Bengali version, Vikram plays Madhavan’s role. Earlier, before the release of the Bengali film, Madhavan posted a video message addressing Vikram on X-handle. He said, “Maara was very, very special. The story, characters, and depiction were absolutely beautiful. I could relate so much to the character. I would like to wish Pradeep Chakravorty, the producer of Maara, his actor Vikram Chatterjee, and the entire cast and crew of Surjo all the very best for this adaptation. I hope Surjo and all of the cast members win the hearts of people across the world like the original film.”
