Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Mukundan Unni Associates in the latest Malayalam film to get a sequel. The movie’s director Abhinav Sunder Nayak and its lead actor Vineeth recently confirmed that the dark comedy will also have a second instalment that will go on floors in 2024.

The movie, which revolves around a narcissistic lawyer who will do everything it takes to achieve his goal of becoming successful in life, also has Arsha Baiju, Tanvi Ram, Sudhi Koppa and George Kora. The film marked the debut directorial of Abhinav, who had previously worked as an associate director in Vineeth’s movies as well as an editor.

Mukundan Unni Associates will also be releasing in other centres such as Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi from this week. Vineeth had previously told OTTplay that Abhinav had first narrated the script to him almost four years ago and had another actor in mind. However, the pandemic and scheduling conflicts lead to the casting not working and this prompted Abhinav to approach Vineeth as its lead.

Vineeth had said that it was a challenging role. “Abhi wanted the body language of the character to be minimal. He wanted the communication to mostly be through the eyes and the modulation,” he said. “Also, because my character is a lawyer, you have to quote a lot of IPC sections. Hence, you can’t improvise too much. Whatever was there in the script, I had to learn that by rote and reproduce during the long takes.”

The movie also has Suraj Venjaramoodu in a pivotal role. Vineeth, meanwhile, has wrapped up the shoot of Thankam, which has him sharing screen space with Biju Menon. He is currently shooting for Kurukkan, which has him teaming up with his father Sreenivasan again. The movie also has Shine Tom Chacko in a pivotal role. Vineeth will also begin work on his next directorial in 2023.
