It was indeed a proud moment for Diljit Dosanjh, and all of the Punjabi entertainment industry as actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh makes history by becoming the first Indian artist to perform Punjabi songs at global music festival Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California.

On April 15, just a day after Baisakhi, Diljit became the first Indian musician to perform at the internationally renowned music extravaganza.

For his big act, the Udta Punjab actor wore Dressed a pair of traditional Punjabi overalls and added a dash of drama with yellow-hued gloves, high-end lifestyle shoes and a smart wtch matching his outfit.

As for his performance, Diljit Dosanjh’s act was widely appreciated by people attending the concert with DJ Diplo seen grooving to his tunes.

“Well, I was aware of the huge scope of Coachella. It was for the first time that this stage had heard Punjabi music. And the world was listening. A regional language musician, on that stage, was the only thing that I was aware of before the show. But how it panned out and its impact, wasn’t something I had anticipated,” Diljit Dosanjh told ETimes in a post-event interview with the publication.

When asked about performing in front of a crowd that was predominantly American, Diljit was quick to clarify that music has no language and joked about how he had planned to interact with th crowd in English but ended up speaking in Punjabi anyway.

“Music has no language, the world is made up of sound. If we like the sound we vibe with it. I didn’t pay attention to who was listening to me and who wasn’t. But I knew that many people weren’t following my language, which is why I ensured that I say this on stage, though what I said was also in Punjabi! Honestly, I had prepared saying that in English but impromptu Punjabi came out of me, as it usually does! End moment pe angrezi ayi hi nai meri bahar (laughs!),” Diljit told the entertainment portal.
