Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan acted together for the first time in Karan Arjun (1995)

If Rakhee’s iconic dialogue, “Mere Karan Arjun Aayenge..” is all that reminds you of Rakesh Roshan’s 1995 fantasy action film - starring Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Raakhee Gulzar, Mamta Kulkarni and Kajol - there’s more trivia for you! Did you know Salman has said that he thought he had killed Shah Rukh on set of Karan Arjun?

Also featuring Amrish Puri, Johnny Lever, Jack Gaud and Ranjeet in pivotal roles, the movie emerged as the second highest-grossing film of the year, after the blockbuster hit Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The plot centred on two brothers, who “seek revenge from their greedy uncle for murdering their father, but are killed by him and then reincarnated to complete the revenge”. Karan Arjun which was also a musical hit, was the first film where Shah Rukh and Salman were cast together. The two superstars recently shared screen space again in Pathaan.

Speaking in the TV show Aap Ki Adalat Salman - Salman’s latest film Farhad Samji-directed Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan has been receiving mixed reviews - told Rajat Sharma about firing at Shah Rukh as a prank on the set of Karan Arjun, which turned out to be quite dangerous. “I got a blank gun from action director Bhiku Verma. A party was going on and there were Rajasthani folk dancers. I told Shah Rukh, I’ll call you for a dance, you refuse, then we will engage in scuffle, and here’s a blank gun. I will fire a shot and you will fall down. Shah Rukh refused. ‘I am very tired’, he told me. My brother Sohail [Khan] was also there. I pulled Shah Rukh’s hand, and he snatched it away. He pushed me, so I pushed him too, and a scuffle ensued. I took out the gun and fired a shot at him. Shah Rukh did a somersault and fell down.”

Obviously, the incident shocked everyone on the set, as they all thought that SRK was actually injured. “Javed saab’s wife Honey [Irani] aunty was also there. She said, I know him since childhood, he’s not that type of boy. For about 10 minutes, I stood there with red eyes, and said, ‘Koi nahin uthega, sabko maar doonga’. Rakeshji’s hands started trembling. Then, I said, ‘Shah Rukh uth Shah Rukh uth’. When Shah Rukh didn’t wake up, Sohail and Bhikuda panicked. I checked my gun. Suddenly, Shah Rukh started snoring. So, the pathaan was at last alive. I again fired 3-4 shots, and everybody started laughing,” Salman elaborated.

Appreciating SRK’s acting chops, Salman further said, “I think Shah Rukh is the best performer in the industry. There’s no need to say this. This performance was much better than that in Karan Arjun. Everybody was convinced and many were trying to flee the set. It was a good experience.”
