Wicked: For Good stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. The movie is directed by Jon M. Chuand and it features Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, and Jeff Goldblum in pivotal roles.
The musical adaptation’s second part continues the story revolving around the ‘Wicked Witch,’ who, in hiding, continues her fight for animal rights, and Glinda, the beloved figurehead of Oz who has become embroiled in the country’s politics.
The movie delves into their separate stories, the Wizard’s regime, and the connections to the story of The Wizard of Oz. The story begins 12 turns of the tide after the first movie, with the ‘Wicked Witch’ in hiding, deep in the woods of Oz. The ‘Wicked Witch’ continues her fight to expose the Wizard’s (Jeff Goldblum) corruption and fight for the voiceless creatures of Oz, while being demonized by the country.
Glinda, in Emerald City, represents hope and optimism, as seen in the watchful eyes of Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), but also conceals the manipulations of the ruling class and the lingering pain of her split from Elphaba. Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) searches frantically for his beloved Elphaba, while Nessarose (Marissa Bode) rises as the fearsome Wicked Witch of the East, and the build-up begins for the orchestrated battle in Munchkinland, which will forever change the face of Oz.
