Ya Ali singer Zubeen Garg has died at 52. The artist was involved in a scuba-diving accident in Singapore, which is where he breathed his last.

Who was Zubeen Garg?

Zubeen Garg is best known for crooning the Gangster movie song Ya Ali. The film starred Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Shiney Ahuja in the lead roles. Apart from being a singer who sang in 40 languages, Zubeen Garg also directed three Assamese films.

Zubeen Garg's lesser-known contributions

Born in Meghalaya, Zubeen Garg was born as Zubeen Borthakur on November 18, 1972. Apart from Assamese and Hindi, Zubin Garg also crooned songs in Odia, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Khasi and English. He had also won the National Award for Best Music Direction for a Non-Feature Film in 2007 for the Khasi and English-language film Echoes of Silence. The Assamese films which he directed included Tumi Mur Mathu Mur (2000), Mission China (2017) and Kanchanjangha (2019).

Zubeen Garg was in fact out to promote North East India festival in Singapore. His last Instagram post read, "Friends in Singpore, I will like to invite you to 4th North East India Festival in Sunctec, Singapore during 20th and 21st September. Come and explore the exotic part of India, we are carrying quality agri, craft products, tea experience, dance forms, fashion shows and evening musical show presenting Rock bands, rappers from India's North East. I will be there throughout the Festival as Cultural Brand Ambassador and will perform on 20th evening with my popular Hindi, Bengali and Assamese Songs. I would like to invite you all, it will be Saturday and Sunday and entry is free. All come and support us. Cheers!"
