YS Jagan announces Vizag as AP capital, will the Telugu film industry change base from Hyderabad?

Madras was a hub for the Telugu film industry in the bygone era. But the likes of NTR and ANR made sure that they shift base to Hyderabad and they did so in the late 80's. Since then, the film capital of Telugu cinema has been Hyderabad. But as Telangana was formed as a new state, everyone thought the film industry would move to AP. But it did not happen as the big stars and production houses stayed back in Hyderabad and are still operating from here.

Sometime back, there was news that the Telugu film industry will be moving to the city of Vizag as the city had a beach and beautiful locations which were perfect for film shoots. Even now, 40% of Telugu films get shot in Vizag. So, the industry moving to Vizag has always been in discussion for a long time. Stalwarts like producer Rama Naidu also own a film studio in Vizag.

Now, AP CM, YS Jagan, today, officially announced Vizag as the capital of Andhra Pradesh during the curtain raiser event held at Delhi by AP Government for next month's Global Investors Summit. Now, going back in time, megastar Chiranjeevi during the pre-release event of Waltair Veerayya announced that he also bought a beach facing land and will soon construct a new home there and would spend a lot of time there.

Ever since YS Jagan has announced that Vizag will be a capital, Chiranjeevi's statement from the past now makes sense, say the industry insiders now. As he knew that Vizag would be the capital, he had already made plans to shift to Vizag. If a big star like Chiranjeevi shifts to Vizag, many will follow him. On the other hand, the AP government has been putting pressure on big heroes to invest in AP and even move the industry to Vizag.

Now that the capital has been announced, things will change dramatically in the days to come. We need to see if the stars and other big producers will move to Vizag or not. For now, Hyderabad is a hub and has massive film studios and major post production facilities. Only time will tell what the film stars will do. There is a gossip that some of the big stars already own lands in properties knowing the fact that Vizag will one day become the capital of AP. Let's see what happens.
