Asin was born into a Catholic family
Asin was born on October 26, 1985, as Asin Thottumkal in Kochi, to a Malayalam Syro-Malabar Catholic family. Her father, Joseph Thottumkal, is a former CBI officer-turned-businessman, and her mother, Seline Thottumkal, is a surgeon. Asin’s name is a mix of Sanskrit and English, and means ‘pure and without any blemishes’.

She is an English Honours graduate
Asin studied at Naval Public School, Kochi till Class 10, later shifting to St. Teresa's School in Kochi for her higher education. The actor completed her graduation from MG University,Kochi where she graduated with an English Honours degree.

Asin made her acting debut at the age of 15
Asin began her career by featuring in an advertisement for BPL mobiles. She then went on to debut in Malayalam films, with Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in 2001, when she was only 15 years old. After the film, she took a sabbatical to complete her education and made a comeback with the Telugu film, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, opposite Ravi Teja, in 2003.

Asin a humanitarian
Asin is a philanthropist and humanitarian, who has contributed to society over the years. She was part of the camps to help Sri Lankan refugees during the Sri Lankan Civil War, all while shooting for her film Ready. She even supports the education of young children to provide them with better opportunities.

The actor is a polyglot
Due to her association with South Indian movies, the actor can speak seven languages, being well-versed in Malayalam (her mother tongue), Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit, English, Hindi and French. She loves learning new languages and learned Marathi for her film Khiladi 786. She also learned a bit of Spanish during her visit to Spain in 2014.

Asin, a Catholic Christian, and Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma, a Hindu, had two wedding ceremonies — a Christian wedding followed by a Hindu wedding in 2016. The couple welcomed their daughter Arin in 2017, and Asin has since been taking time off from films.
