Modern-day adaptations of Ramayana that should be on your watchlist

Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starring Adipurush recently launched its teaser, which has already created a lot of buzz around the movie based on the Hindu epic Ramayana. The trend of adapting these epics for the contemporary audience is not new; before Adipurush there was Raavan, RRR, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Rudraksh. While some are direct adaptations, others are modern-day adaptations based on current time settings. Before watching Adipurush, check out these other adaptations of Ramayana.

Raavan

The 2010 Mani Ratnam-directed movie features Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The action drama features Aishwarya in the role of Sita who is abducted by Beera, a bandit based on Raavan. It is available on Disney+Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video.

There is no denying the fact that this blockbuster hit reminded fans of characters from Ramayana. The S.S. Rajamouli-directed movie features Ram Charan essaying the role of Alluri Sitarama Raju, Jr NTR as Komaram Bheem and Alia Bhatt playing Sita. One can safely say that the characters seem to be inspired by Ramayana, with Ram, NTR and Bhatt’s characters reminiscent of Lord Ram, Hanuman and Sita. Watch it on Netflix, Disney+Hotstar and Zee5.

Hum Saath Saath Hain

Hum Saath Saath Hain is one of the biggest blockbusters of all time in Bollywood. The family entertainer takes major inspiration from the epic Ramayana where the eldest son leaves for exile obeying the wishes of his mother. It features a multi-star cast including Mohnish Bahl, Tabu, Salman Khan, Sonali Bendre, Saif Ali Khan and Karisma Kapoor along with an ensemble supporting cast of Alok Nath, Reema Lagoo, Shakti Kapoor, Neelam Kothari and Mahesh Thakur.
