Monica, O My Darling: Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte's neo-noir thriller drama will not disappoint

Monica, O My Darling now streaming on Netflix

The Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor starrer Monica, O My Darling, released on Netflix and has already created a lot of buzz amongst the audience due to its impeccable storyline and power-packed performances by its ensemble cast. Helmed by Vasan Bala, the film has the same feel as Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun, and like Raghavan’s film, Monica O My Darling also leaves you on a cliffhanger at the climax to make your own assumptions about the preferred ending to the film. It features Rajkummar as Jayant, a robotics engineer, Akansha as Nikki, Jayant’s fiance; and Huma as Monica, Jayant’s work colleague and also his girlfriend.

A thriller drama with a series of murders that keeps you hooked on the screens

The title is inspired by the popular 90s song Monica, O My Darling. The movie is a thriller crime mystery that evolves from an affair that culminates in a series of murders, making the movie an interesting watch. The film is a crime mystery and does not try to be anything else; it stays true to its genre and unfurls layers of that drama without touching upon many emotions. The film’s cinematography and direction remind one of another thriller drama, Andhadhun, but it is a complete story altogether that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Here are all the reasons why you should watch the film:,

Backed by power-packed performances

The film features Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor in lead roles. Rajkummar has again proven the prowess of his acting talent on screen with Monica, O My Darling, but Huma has stolen the limelight away from him every time she is on screen. From Huma’s first dance number to her last scene with Rajkummar, the actress is on point and in tune with her inner diva. Even though Akansha's role as Nikki in the movie was good, some of the things she said sounded like gibberish, which was not pleasant to hear.

The iconic supporting cast

Monica, O My Darling features an ensemble cast in supporting roles. Radhika Apte appears as ACP Naidu, investigating the murders; Sikandar Kher is Nishikant Adhikari; and Sukant Goel is Gaurav More. The highlight of the film could be its supporting cast, which has added layers and complexities to the simple crime story. A special mention must be given to Radhika Apte for acing the role of a police officer with such an effortless performance. The actress has not only taken on the role of a police officer, but she has also mastered the Marathi accent.

Impeccable soundtrack that complements the plotline

The film features an impeccable soundtrack. Its first song featuring Huma Qureshi, Yeh Ek Zindagi, is peppy and has all the retro vibes but still feels fresh and pleasant to the ears, which makes you groove along with Huma. The thrilling plotline is also helped by the background score, which keeps the audience glued to the screens.
