Where The Tatas began
Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata (JN Tata) worked in his father’s export business and grew cotton and silk manufacturing business from there. He had planned hydro-electric power plants too but they came into existence after his demise in 1904.

RD Tata and his brother’s feat
Tata Iron And Steel Company came into existence in 1907 and his sons Sir Dorabji Jamsetji Tata and Sir Ratanji Tata (RD Tata) turned it into the largest privately owned steelmaker in India. Tata Steel still runs successfully in Jamshedpur, Bihar.

Founding IISc Bangalore (now Bengaluru)
The brothers even founded the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore (now Bengaluru) in 1898. Through that, they funded technical education and scientific research to dig out talents from the young Indian minds.

JRD Tata
RD Tata’s son Jehangir (JRD Tata) had founded Tata Airlines in 1932. It was nationalized in 1953 and became functional for domestic and International flights under separate names. Indian Airlines Corporation had international flights while Air India had domestic flights. Both the companies are functional even today and Air India was acquired by Tata once again, through Ratan Tata.
