List hai toh hit hai

Neil Patrick Harris is back in a new avatar in the Netflix series Uncoupled. He essays the role of a newly single gay man in search of love. This is a change of pace for Harris, who is renowned for playing the popular ladies’ man Barney Stinson, despite being openly gay in real life. So on today’s podcast, we take a look at some of his most memorable films and TV shows.

1. How I met your Mother (Disney+ Hotstar)

Doogie Howser M D from the late 80s and early 90s introduced a young Neil Patrick Harris to the world, but it was How I Met Your Mother released in 2005 that propelled Harris to immortality. His turn as the womanising Barney Stinson in the series, along with his iconic catchphrases have become part of pop culture. His legendary character may have also inadvertently helped resurrect the Karate Kid franchise in real life through Cobra Kai.

2. Its a Sin (LionsgatePlay)

The British drama series is possibly one of the most underappreciated shows in recent years. It follows the lives of those affected by the AIDS epidemic in the UK in the 80s. It also sheds light on the tragic reality of society’s ignorance towards the virus and how those infected were ostracized. Harris essays the role of Henry Coltrane, a gay man who was a pillar of strength and support for one of the protagonists until he succumbs to the virus.

3. Starship troopers (Disney+ Hotstar)

The classic 90s sci-fi action thriller. Starship Troopers is one of the forgotten films starring Neil Patrick Harris. Even though it was panned upon its initial release, it has since gained critical acclaim for its satirical take on contemporary politics, etched into the narrative as subtext. The plot is set in the 23rd century where humans have become space colonisers until a new threat emerges that could send mankind into extinction. Harris essays one of the lead roles as Carl Jenkins.

4. A Series of Unfortunate Events - (Netflix)

Taking over the reins of an iconic character played by a legendary actor is a monumental task. Harris tackled this challenge with ease after he took over from Jim Carrey in essaying the role of Count Olaf, a scheming stage acrid who is willing to go to extreme lengths to steal the Baudelaire family fortune for himself. This 2017 reboot of the 2004 film is based on the novels by Lemony Snicket.

5. Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - (Amazon Prime Video)

The sequel to the buddy stoner comedy Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle is just as hilarious as the first. Titled Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, the film stars John Cho and Kal Penn in the lead with Neil Patrick Harris playing an exaggerated and fictionalized version of himself. Harris has played a pivotal role in all the films of the franchise.

6. Gone Girl - (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, and Youtube)

No Neil Patrick Harris filmography list would be complete without mentioning Gone Girl. This psychological thriller directed by David Fincher is based on the novel by Gillian Flynn. Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck play the lead roles with Harris playing a pivotal role. Even though his character, Desi Collings, has relatively limited screen time, he is central to the narrative. He is involved in what could only be described as one of the most disturbing scenes ever produced on film.

Well that's the OTTplay List hai toh hit hai for today , until the next time it's your host Nikhil signing out.
