The action-comedy film also stars Michelle Monaghan in the lead, and the film is the perfect blend of scintillating action, dark humor, and well-written characters.

In Bruges (Amazon)

Long before filmmaker Martin McDonagh was propelled to global recognition for directing the multiple Academy-Award winning 2017 film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, he helmed a criminally underrated action-comedy, In Bruges. The film stars Brendan Gleason and Colin Farell in lead roles, and the film is action packed, hilarious, and incredibly moving. It is set in the backdrop of the stunning medieval art architecture of the Belgian city of Bruges.

Hot Fuzz (MX Player, Amazon, YouTube, Google, Apple TV)

Part of British filmmaker Edgar Wright’s The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, Hot Fuzz features Simon Pegg and Nick Frost teaming up yet again for the action comedy. This comedy satire features palpable action, Wright’s ingenious editing, and very dark humour. The genre redefining 2007 film set a benchmark that is yet to be tested.

Tropic Thunder (Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google, Apple TV)

Tropic Thunder is one of the more popular films on this list. Featuring a star-studded ensemble, this action-comedy used an unconventional narrative style and over-the-top set pieces like no other. The film features an engrossing screenplay and easily one of the best films helmed by Ben Stiller. The line from the film, “I know who I am! I'm a dude playing the dude, disguised as another dude!!”, has attained legendary in pop-culture.

21 Jump Street (Amazon, YouTube, Google, Apple TV)

The unlikely team up of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the remake of the 80s TV series is quite simply one of the best American action comedies of the 2010s. The film features incredible comedy and exciting action sequences and follows the story of two undercover narcotic detectives who enroll in a highschool together to bust a drug ring. It was also the directorial debut of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo that helmed the Academy-award winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.

Deadpool (Disney+ Hotstar, YouTube, Google, Apple TV)

The most successful film on this list is the 2016 superhero action-comedy Deadpool. Its lead star Ryan Reynolds went to great lengths to get this film made and allegedly was involved in leaking a test footage of the film on the internet. Regardless of how that footage was released to the public, it resulted in 20th Century Fox greenlighting the film and the rest as they say is history. It broke box-office records and established Reynolds as a bankable star. The film features all the elements that are associated with the comic book character Deadpool such as, dark humour, blood, gore, violence, guns, and Katana swords.
