Mari Yamamoto has joined legendary's monsterverse
Mari Yamamoto, who played Hana in Pachinko, will be joining Legendary's Monsterverse as she has been cast in an untitled television spinoff for Apple TV+. Details of her role have not been revealed but the Japanese actress who was the script consultant for Tokyo Vice may share the screen with the likes of Kurt Russel and Wyatt Russell, who played John Walker in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The series will follow a family’s journey in uncovering their association with a secret organization called the Monarch and will be set in a universe following the epic battle between Godzilla and the Titans that proved the existence of monsters among us.
Netflix orders historical soap opera set during the black death of 1348
The success of period dramas on Netflix such as Bridgerton have inspired the streamer to consider the genre more seriously. So it’s hardly surprising that the streaming platform has greenlit a new period drama called The Decameron. The 14th century drama is set during the Black Death, the most devastating pandemic in history which took place in 1348 in Florence. So if you’re one who relishes a period drama where Florentine nobles devise survival strategies while being locked up in an immense Tuscan villa, this period piece is all that you wanted.
Aquaman’s Jason Momoa to co-produce biopic on surfing icon Duke Kahanamoku
Aquaman’s Jason Momoa is slated to co-produce a biopic on legendary Hawaiian surfer Duke Kahanamoku. The cinematic tribute will depict the trailblazing athlete’s professional career while allowing one a peek into his personal life as well. The Hawaiian swimmer participated in four Olympic Games between 1912 and 1932 and bagged 5 medals for his efforts. Dubbed as the ‘father of modern day surfing’, the remarkable athlete retired from the sport and went on to helm gas stations in Hawaii where he also served as the sheriff of Honolulu for three decades. Now, that’s one incredible life we can’t wait to watch on the big screen!
'Riverdale’s Camila Mendes to star in & executive produce romantic comedy ‘Upgraded’
Riverdale fans are in luck! Actress Camila Mendes who impressed us as Veronica Lodge on Riverdale will be soon seen in a romcom starring Archie Renaux, who played Malyen Oretsev in the Netflix series Shadow and Bone. The romcom revolves around Ana (an auction house trainee played by Mendes) who travels to London for work and that’s where she encounters a young, handsome, and wealthy businessman named William (played by Renaux). We’re all for meet cutes and can’t wait for this one to drop.
Ariana DeBose to lead psychological thriller 'House of Spoils'
Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story surely propelled Ariana DeBose’s career in a direction that every actor can only dream of. No wonder then that she’s now being cast as the lead in a forthcoming psychological thriller called House of Spoils. Backed by Prime Video and Blumhouse Television, the film revolves around a chef who converts a remote estate into a fancy farm-to-table restaurant. But things take a dark turn when the chef realizes that the previous inhabitant’s spirit continues to lurk in the venue. A spirit who wants to spell doom and sabotage the efforts of an aspiring chef is sure to make for one helluva thriller and we can’t wait to watch this one.
Laura Linney, Woody Harrelson, and Nico Parker will lead 'Suncoast'
Creator of Florida Girls, Laura Chinn is set to make her directorial debut in Suncoast, which stars Woody Harrelson, Laura Linney, and Nico Parker. The drama is inspired by Chinn’s personal experiences and is based on the debilitating life of a strong-willed mother and her teenage daughter. Turbulent events that land her son in a specialized facility. It is here that the teen forms an unlikely bond with an eccentric activist amidst protests about controversial medical cases. Parker plays the young teenager, Linney plays her mother, and Harrelson is slated to play the activist. The film’s expected to begin production in September this year.
Neve Campbell to lead drama Series 'Avalon'
Neve Campbell has been cast to play the lead in the drama series, Avalon. The series is based on the original short story by Connelly, whose literary works have been adapted into popular shows such as Bosch and The Lincoln Lawyer. This series revolves around the life of Nic Searcy, a former Los Angeles police officer who serves as the sheriff of Avalon and is a straight-shooter who plays it by the book. The story is set in a small, uneventful town in America and how the appearance of a visitor stirs up chaos. And as it turns out, it will be upto this morally-tuned sheriff to unfurl a dark mystery which will permanently alter her opinion of herself and those around her. Intrigued? Well, we sure can’t wait to find out how this story folds up.
