List hai toh hit hai

The Hollywood Foreign Press have announced the nominees for this year’s Golden Globes. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael will host the 80th Golden Globes and the event is expected to be a star-studded affair. So for today’s List Hai Toh Hit Hai we've curated a list of films, shows and actors who we think should and even those who will win a Golden Globe this year.

1. Best Picture (Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, The Fablemans, TÁR, Top Gun: Maverick)

Should win: Tom Cruise's blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick is an homage to action films from yesteryear and it is simply perfect. So it is our obvious choice for this year’s Best Picture.

Will win: James Cameron’s Avatar The Way of Water is on course to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time and it's visuals are truly groundbreaking. We believe the Avatar sequel will win Best Picture.

2. Best Picture - Musical/Comedy (Babylon, The Banshees of Inisherin, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Triangle of Sadness)

Should win: If it were up to us we would’ve simply awarded all the Golden Globes to the masterpiece that is Everything Everywhere all at Once and it gets our vote for Best Picture Musical/Comedy as well.

Will win: However, Martin McDonagh’s compelling Irish drama Banshees Of Inisherin is our best bet to win the Golden Globe for Best Picture - Musical/Comedy.

3. Best Actress Motion Picture Drama (Cate Blanchett- TÁR, Olivia Colman - Empire of Light, Viola Davis -The Woman King, Ana de Armas - Blonde, Michelle Williams

The Fabelmans)

Should win: Viola Davis is scintillating in the period drama The Woman King and she's our pick for Best Actress Motion Picture Drama.

Will win: But Michelle Williams in The Fablemans essayed an equally compelling role and we feel is the more likely candidate to win it.

4. Best Actor Motion Picture Drama (Austin Butler

Elvis, Brendan Fraser - The Whale, Hugh Jackman - The Son, Bill Nighy - Living, Jeremy Pope - The Inspection)

Should win: Austin Butler completely transformed himself into the King of Rock N’ Roll in the Elvis Presley biopic Elvis and is our pick for who should win Best Actor Motion Picture Drama.

Will win: Brendan Fraser’s renaissance continues in the critically-acclaimed Darren Aronofsky film The Whale. His moving performance in the film makes him the more likely candidate to pip Butler to the award.

5. Best Actress - Motion Picture Comedy (Lesley Manville - Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, Margot Robbie - Babylon, Anya Taylor-Joy - The Menu, Emma Thompson - Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, Michelle Yeoh - Everything Everywhere All at Once)

Should win: Lesley Manville's performance in Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is criminally underrated and is our pick for who should win Best Actress - Motion Picture Comedy.

Will win: On the other hand Michelle Yeoh’s starring role in Everything Everywhere all at Once is riveting and we believe she will win the Golden Globe ahead of Lesley Manville.

6. Best Actor -Musical Comedy Motion Picture (Diego Calva - Babylon, Daniel Craig - Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Adam Driver - White Noise, Colin Farrell - The Banshees of Inisherin, Ralph Fiennes - The Menu)

Should win: Colin Farrell has no competition in this category as he was head and shoulders above the rest in his performance in Banshees Of Inisherin. We have to conclude that Farrell should and will win Best Actor in a Musical Comedy Motion Picture category.

7. Best Director Motion Picture (James Cameron - Avatar: The Way of Water, Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan - Everything Everywhere All at Once, Baz Luhrmann - Elvis, Martin McDonagh - The Banshees of Inisherin, Steven Spielberg - The Fabelmans)

Should win: Irish filmmaker Martin Mcdonagh continues to produce award-winning films and he should be the top contender for Best Director.

Will win: However, his direct competition is none other than Steven Spielberg for The Fablemans and he is our pick for who should win it.

8 . Best Drama Series (Better Call Saul, The Crown, House of the Dragon, Ozark, Severance)

Should win: Better Call Saul is the best TV show of the year hands-down and it is quite bewildering that it is overlooked during the awards season.

Will win: We believe that Vince Gilligan’s masterpiece will be overlooked yet again for reasons beyond our comprehension and that the award for Best Drama series will be given to the Apple TV+ original series Severance.

9. BestMusical/Comedy Series (Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Wednesday)

The FX original comedy-drama The Bear is our pick for both who should and who will win for Best Musical/Comedy Series

10. Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture (Black Bird, Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, The Dropout, The White Lotus)

Should win: The White Lotus delivered yet another compelling season filled with dark humour and is our pick as to who should win Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture.

Will win: But the widely popular Netflix true-crime series, Dahmer is more likely to win the award.

11. Best Actress - Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture (Jessica Chastain - George & Tammy, Julia Garner - Inventing Anna, Lily James - Pam & Tommy, Julia Roberts - Gaslit, Amanda Seyfried - The Dropout)

Should win: Amanda Seyfried’s performance as Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout is so good that Jennifer Lawrence reportedly dropped out from essaying the character in a film.

However, it appears Ozark star Julia Garner will continue to rake in awards for her performance in Inventing Anna and is our pick for who will win Best Actress - Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture.

12. Best Actor - Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture (Taron Egerton - Black Bird, Colin Firth, The Staircase, Andrew Garfield - Under the Banner of Heaven, Evan Peters - Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Sebastian Stan - Pam & Tommy)

Should win: Andrew Garfield has entered the award season with more nominations for the second year in a row, and this time for his outstanding performance in Under the Banner of Heaven.

Will win: The Hollywood Foreign Press will more likely pick Evan Peters’ performance as the deranged serial killer Jeffery Dahmer in Dahmer.

13. Best Television Actress - Drama Series (Emma D’Arcy - House of the Dragon, Laura Linney - Ozark, Imelda Staunton -The Crown, Hillary Swank - Alaska Daily, Zendaya - Euphoria)

Should win: Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is measured and compelling and is our pick for Best Television Actress - Drama Series.

Will win: But our bets are on Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown to win Best Television Actress - Drama Series.

14. Best Television Actor - Drama Series (Jeff Bridges - The Old Man, Kevin Costner - Yellowstone, Diego Luna - Andor, Bob Odenkirk - Better Call Saul, Adam Scott - Severance)

Should win: It should be a crime that Bob Odenkirk has never won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Jimmy McGill aka Saul Goodman in Better Call Saul.

Will win: In an ideal world, he should win it but it appears Kevin Costner in Yellowstone is the more likely candidate.

15. Best Television Actress - Musical/Comedy Series (Quinta Brunson - Abbott Elementary, Kaley Cuoco - The Flight Attendant, Selena Gomez- Only Murders in the Building, Jenna Ortega - Wednesday, Jean Smart - Hacks)

Should win: We have two picks each for this category. Who should win it are Kaley Cuoco for The Flight Attendant or Jean Smart for Hacks.

Will win: The likely candidates who will win are either Jenna Ortega for Wednesday or Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary.

16. Best Television Actor - Musical/Comedy Series (Donald Glover - Atlanta, Bill Hader - Barry, Steve Martin - Only Murders in the Building, Martin Short - Only Murders in the Building, Jeremy Allen White - The Bear)

Should win: Bill Hader is yet another underrated actor and he deserves all the accolades he can get for the hit TV series Barry;

Will win: But Jeremy Allen White’s performance in The Bear is our to win Best Television Actor in a Musical/Comedy Series.

17. Best Picture - Non-English Language (formerly Foreign Language) (All Quiet on the Western Front, Argentina, 1985, Close, Decision to Leave, RRR)

Should win: The latest adaption of All Quiet on the Western Front is haunting, evocative, and compelling. The German film about the lives of soldiers in the trenches during World War I is our pick as to who should win the award.

Will win: But we believe the coming-of-age multilingual film Close will win Best Picture - Non-English Language.

18. Best Picture - Animated (Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Inu-Oh, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Turning Red)

Even though animated films such as Turning Red and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish were well received by critics, they are no match for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. We believe the film should and will win the Golden Globe for Best Picture - Animated.
