Podcast transcript:

Welcome to another episode of List hai toh hit hai and I am your host and dost Nikhil.

In this episode, we’re showcasing the best of Emmy Award-winner Jason Sudeikis’ films and shows. Right from Ted Lasso which won him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor to Horrible Bosses, the black comedy where Sudekis shared the screen with Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jennifer Anniston.

In the spotlight since the Apple TV+ original series, Ted Lasso rocked the Emmys bagging 7 awards this year. Sudekis earned his feathers as an SNL regular and also featured in several hit comedies over the years. So if you’re a Sudeikis fan, here are some movies you can stream on OTT platforms in India:

Horrible Bosses

The black comedy is about a group of friends plotting to murder their respective bosses after having been on the receiving end of workplace harassment for years. In this film, Sudeikis plays the smooth-talking accounts manager with a manufacturing company who is cheated out of running the company by the late owner’s son (played by Colin Ferrell), who happens to be a drug addict who has delusions of grandeur.

We’re the Millers

This R-rated comedy is about a ‘pretend’ family trying to smuggle drugs from Mexico to the United States and the misadventures they encounter en route. Sudeikis plays a small-time marijuana dealer who wants to finally hit the big time with one major score. The film was not met with critical acclaim but it was a commercial success and is one of the most popular films featuring Sudeikis as the lead. The film also stars Jennifer Anniston, Emma Robert, and Will Poulter in leading roles.

The Angry Birds

Video game adaptations have rarely translated well into film or TV, despite video games featuring some of the most riveting stories ever told. But Angry Birds a game with no narrative, became a surprise hit when it released in 2016. Jason Sudeikis plays the lead as Red, a bird who is angry and an outcast. The film’s success greenlit a sequel titled, The Angry Birds Movie 2 which released in 2019.

Colossal

The sci-fi black comedy starring Jason Sudekis and Anne Hatheway follows an alcoholic writer’s journey which leads her to accidentally manifest a giant monster in Seoul, South Korea. The film was praised by most critics despite being unable to set the box-office alight.

Driven

The movie is a fictionalised version of the real-life story of infamous automobile mogul John Delorean. Jason Sudeikis stars as James T Hoffman, an FBI informant who is part of the sting operation to charge DeLorean with drug smuggling. The film may not be as historically accurate as the Netflix documentary titled Myth & Mogul: John DeLorean but received praise for its performances.

Next Gen

The 2018 animated film was widely praised and revolves around a young girl named Mai (Charlyne Yi) who goes on exciting adventures with a robot named Project 77 (John Krasinski). Sudeikis voices the villainous Justice Pin and Ares. The animated film also features Constance Wu and David Cross in important roles. The film is one of the few roles where Sudeikis played the antagonist.

Kodachrome

Despite appearing in several hit comedies over the years, Kodachrome is probably Sudeikisk’s most underrated film. The Netflix original also stars Ed Harris and Elisabeth Olsen in primary roles and revolves around a son and terminally-ill father, who was once a renowned photographer, in the midst of Kodachrome being discontinued from the market. Both Ed Harris and Jason Sudeikis received praise for their excellent portrayal as father and son.

Ted Lasso

The surprise hit of 2020 has been sweeping up awards along the way. It is extraordinary to think the character Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) was initially just a TV advert to promote the Premier League, the crème de la crème of European and English football, in North America. The story of an amiable American football coach who becomes the head coach/manager of an English football club is lauded as one of the best shows in recent times.

Well, that brings us to the end of today's list hai toh hit hai, I will be catching up with you soon with another super episode, until then its your host and dost Nikhil signing off!
