Chef

This 2014 American comedy drama film is written, directed by and stars Jon Favreau as Carl Casper. The other actors in the film are Emjay Anthony as Percy Casper, Sofía Vergara as Inez Casper and John Leguizamo as Martin. This light-hearted feel-good movie follows Chef Carl, who after getting thrown out of a posh LA restaurant, decides to start anew and buys a food truck. He is assisted by his son, ex-wife and a friend. This venture rekindles his passion for cooking and brings the estranged family closer.

Bheemasena Nala Maharaja

The 2020 Kannada drama film stars Aravinnd Iyer and Arohi Narayan in the lead with Priyanka Thimmesh, Aadya Udupi and Achyut Kumar in supporting roles. The movie is all about an incomplete love story narrated by chef Latthesh to his guest Sara at a resort. Sara, who is served Latthesh’s scrumptious biryani upon arrival, takes interest in the chef’s love story. This twisty tale is garnished by eye soothing cinematography and crisp editing.

Cheeni Kum

A 2007 Hindi rom-com film stars Amitabh Bachchan as Buddhadev Gupta, Tabu as Nina Verma and Paresh Rawal as Omprakash Verma. This unusual film depicts a romance between a 64-year-old egoistic chef Buddhadev and a 34 year old cheerful Nina. Its gentle humour and the chemistry between Rawal and Bachchan’s characters make Cheeni Kum a must-watch movie.

Ustad Hotel

This 2012 Malayalam movie, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Surendranatha Thilakan and Nithya Meno* n, has three National Film Awards to its name. The story follows an aspiring chef whose father prevents him from taking up a new job in the UK and forces him to work at his grandfather’s restaurant in Kozhikode. His experiences change his outlook forever.

A 2017 Bengali feature film stars Ritwick Chakraborty, Paoli Dam and Mamata Shankar in the lead. Maacher Jhol or Fish curry, a classic Bengali dish, is the key element of this movie. The story follows Paris-based star chef Dev D who returns to Kolkata after 13 years to tend to his unwell mother and treat her to a bowl of authentic Bengali fish curry.

Julie & Julia

Is a 2009 American biographical comedy-drama film starring the legendary Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams. The plot simultaneously unravels their tales of conquering French cuisine with fearlessness and zeal.
