In recent years, filmmakers have upgraded action sequences with crisp visual effects and realistic graphics. Here are a few commendable Indian cop films you can go ahead and binge-watch.

A Wednesday

The 2008 Hindi thriller starring Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher is considered one of the best crime drama films ever made. The story follows a common man planting bombs to eliminate the terrorists involved in Mumbai train bombings. The man eventually crosses paths with the police commissioner who tracks his secret location through GPS. The story has good twists and is a must dekho!

Mardaani

A 2014 Hindi crime drama that focuses on women empowerment, Mardaani stars Rani Mukherjee and Jisshu Sengupta and is directed by Pradeep Sarkar. The story is about a fearless cop who sets out to rescue a teenage girl and take down a child trafficker. In the movie, Rani packs in some solid punches, both literally and metaphorically. The screenplay will definitely keep you glued to your seat until the end of the film.

Special 26

Special 26 is a 2013 Hindi crime drama directed by Neeraj Pandey. It has an ensemble cast with Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Jimmy Shergill, and Manoj Bajpayee in lead roles. The story is about a gang of con artists who disguise themselves as CBI officers to raid a politician’s house. The movie becomes a cat and mouse chase when an honest CBI officer sets out to stop their next big heist. The film offers a good twist in the climax.

Khakee

The 2004 Hindi action thriller has an ensemble cast consisting of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Prakash Raj and Atul Kulkarni. The story is about a team of police officers who escort an alleged terrorist from the small city of Chandgad to Mumbai. As they set out for Mumbai, they encounter unforeseen events. They fight for their survival against adversities created by an ex-police officer for reasons best known to him. The movie has some good blockbuster songs.

Shootout at Lokhandwala

A 2007 crime action movie is based on a real story of a shootout in Lokhandwala in 1991. An upcoming gangster Maya and his associate Dilip meet up in the swarming Lokhandwala complex to count seventy lakh rupees in a flat when a group of 286 policemen headed by ACP Khan attack them from all sides. The film has a stellar star cast consisting of Amitabh Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Abhishek Bachchan, and Rohit Roy. The movie gained fame for its song ‘Yeh Ganpat chal daru la’ .

Singham

The 2010 Tamil language action film distributed by Sun Pictures has Suriya as the main lead and Anushka Shetty. The story revolves around a police sub-inspector Duraisingam who gets transferred to Chennai. He gets to know there was an influential goon behind his transfer. Unable to cope with the violence the goon has unleashed upon people, he decides to head back to his village. But he is stopped by his girlfriend Kavya and has to fight for what is right. The movie was a huge success all over and it was later remade in different languages and has a few sequels released as well.

Talaash

The 2012 Hindi thriller was financed by Aamir Khan Productions and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Rani Mukerji in lead roles with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Rajkummar Rao. The story revolves around inspector Shekhawat, who grieves his young son’s death. He is assigned a high-profile case of a car accident. When he starts investigating the case, he encounters an alluring escort named Rosie.
