The stunning Aishwarya Rai came to limelight when she won the Miss World pageant in 1994. She later went on to act in movies and made her debut in Mani Ratnam's critically acclaimed Tamil film, Iruvar alongside Mohanlal in 1997. In 1998, she starred in Jeans, directed by S Shankar, which was the most expensive Indian film at that time. The movie was a commercial success.
She won critical acclaim for her performances in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali movies, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas. The action crime movie Dhoom 2 and the period drama movie Jodhaa Akbar are her other prominent movies.
In 2022, she starred in Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 which is an adaptation of the work by Kalki Krishamoorthy. It is directed by Mani Ratnam and its sequel, Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 will release on 28th April 2023.
