The National award-winning actress Shobana has acted in numerous films across several languages such as Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. In 1993, she starred in the Malayalam psychological thriller Manichitrathazhu which was widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike and won her a National award for Best Actress. She also won a National award in 2001 for her work in the English film, Mitr, My Friend.
She is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and runs a dance school in Chennai. She starred alongside Mohanlal in several blockbuster hits in the 80s and 90s in films such as Thenmavin Kombath Nadodikkattu, and Minnaram. She returned to the Malayalam industry over the last decade and starred in hit films such as Thira, and Varane Avashyamund.
