Arguably one of the greatest actresses of her generation, Meryl Streep made her film debut in the 1977 World War II drama film Julia. The following year, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for her lead role in the miniseries, Holocaust as well as an Oscar nomination for her performance in the movie The Deer Hunter.
She received her first Academy Award in 1979 for her performance in the movie Kramer vs. Kramer and in 1982, she won her second Academy award for her role as a holocaust survivor in the movie Sophie's Choice.
The 1985 movie, Out of Africa the 1992 black comedy fantasy drama, Death Becomes Her and The Bridges of Madison County, released in 1995, are some of the prominent movies that Streep has appeared in.
Adaptation The Hours, Devil Wears Prada and Doubt are some of her other major movies from the 2000s. In 2011, she won her third Academy Award for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.
