Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World pageant in the year 2000, which opened doors for her in the film industry. She first appeared in the Tamil movie, Thamizhan in 2002 and in the following year, she starred in her first Bollywood movie, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. She had her breakout role in 2004 when she appeared in the romantic thriller movie Aitraaz.
She appeared alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan in 2006 in Don and Krrish respectively. In 2008 she won the National Award for best actress for her role in the movie Fashion.
She became the first South Asian to be in the lead role in an American show when she played the role of Alex Parrish in the thriller series, Quantico.
