Anantha Review

Anantha is written and directed by legendary filmmaker Suresh Krissna. The film narrates an emotional story about various individuals, focusing on how they encounter problems in life and how the divine touch of Sai Baba helps heal them. Each episode has an emotional backdrop and presents the story in a deeply devotional tone.

The film plays out more like a documentary on Sathya Sai Baba, showcasing how his disciples discover the divine force through hardship. Although the film begins on a dull and predictable note, it gains momentum as each story unfolds.

Among all the episodes, the one featuring Y.G. Mahendran stands out as the best. It portrays a devoted couple and highlights the emotional turmoil of an elderly man after his wife’s passing.

The drama in this segment and Mahendran’s portrayal of loneliness are deeply moving. The twist related to the old woman’s health and his reaction to it is handled with sensitivity, making it one of the film’s strongest moments.

On the downside, the episode featuring Jagapathi Babu feels forced. The bank robbery scenes and the way his character handles the situation lack emotional depth, making the episode feel artificial.

Jagapathi Babu appears to sleepwalk through the role. While Suresh Krissna succeeds in evoking emotion in some episodes, others turn overly preachy and unintentionally silly.

The Suhasini episode is effective but slightly lengthy. The way Sai Baba’s presence is revealed through a doctor is handled well, with several impactful moments.

In terms of performances, Y.G. Mahendran is the standout, delivering a powerful and emotionally rich performance. Suhasini is also good, while the rest of the cast deliver average performances.

The production values are decent, and the film offers a devotional experience, especially for viewers unfamiliar with Puttaparthi. The editing is okay, and Deva’s background score complements the narrative well.

Anantha Verdict

Overall, Anantha is a devotional drama with a few emotionally well-crafted scenes. Though the film is largely preachy and focused on showcasing the greatness of Sai Baba, it works as a niche watch. It is best suited for followers of Sathya Sai Baba and those interested in devotional storytelling. The film is now streaming on OTTplay Premium.
