Attack review: John Abraham's film is a surprising, cool and edge-of-the-seat thriller

Attack

Attack: Part 1

Story:

Arjun Shergill (John Abraham) becomes paralysed. He is the first 'super soldier' and is out for revenge. Attack is an action-thriller that keeps you at the edge of your seat at every point.

Review:

John Abraham is back and he has redeemed himself with his latest release, Attack. As the actor, producer and story writer of the film, he is impressive in this action-thriller.

The action begins as soon as the film starts and it is on point too. The visuals are grand and clear, which makes the action the best part of the movie. Slow-motion action really works when it comes to this film.

At one point, you even feel it is a Rohit Shetty film, looking at how many cars and people in it get blown up.

In an instant, John Abraham, who plays Arjun Shergill, shows what an Indian soldier braves in his day-to-day life and there isn't a dull moment while he does so. It would actually appear you are in a video game like Close Combat.

His breakdown scene is also shot perfectly. John almost impresses as an actor in the scene. Of course, John's workout and shirtless scenes steal the show too.

Jacqueline Fernandez's entry as Aisha is typical. She's a blonde who needs saving from our hero. But it is safe to say it is just fair.

Rakul Preet Singh as Sabah, on the other hand, grabs your attention as a scientist. She does a good job from the very first scene.

The movie also has some fun moments. The story of the film gets more interesting especially when there is a character that can read people's minds. Attack excels in it.

The songs do not ruin the plotline. In fact, there are some moments when it brings a new light to the story.

Attack is not perfect. It has a few scenes added for dramatic reasons but they do not overshadow the film per se and thus, you can easily overlook them.

Ratna Pathak Shah as Arjun's mom has a brief role, which she manages to pull off pretty well. She never fails to impress you and it is the same with this film too.

Prakash Raj as Subramaniam, an advisor for the Indian army, has one-tone acting but that is given, considering his character. Despite everything, he manages to shine as an actor even in Attack.

The camera angles work perfectly too. It creates the suspense needed for the story. However, the interval comes at random, even though it is a cliffhanger moment.

Rajit Kapur as acting PM is ignored. Not that he has a very powerful role, in any case, he takes a dig at Uri: The Surgical Strike with his dialogue and it makes for a fun moment.

The hostage situation in the film is the highest point. It comes in the second half and even though it makes up for most of the second half, it is not boring.

Attack is probably John's best film so far. It is entertaining in action or otherwise. It is grand in all sense and will leave you with a smile.

There is a Dhoom moment in this film too. John is back on the bike and oh, did we miss that! It ends with this scene and there isn't a moment in this scene where you can look away.

Verdict:

Attack is most definitely a film that should turn into a franchise. Part 1 of this movie is a thorough entertainer for people who enjoy action to the T. John shines out in the movie and it could be considered his redemption for giving us something like Satyameva Jayate 2. The film is a surprisingly cool and edge-of-the-seat thriller. It isn't a one-time watch but something you can enjoy again and again.
