Janaawar – The Beast Within Review

ZEE5 offers a range of crime dramas, including Crime Beat Murshid, and more. One such crime drama is Janaawar - The Beast Within. The series comprises a total of seven episodes. Towards the third episode, Janaawar's plot feels a bit dragged because of multiple crime cases. But surprisingly, it again takes an interesting turn in the fifth episode that hooks you into it till the end.

Top 4 Crime Dramas on OTTplay

Janaawar - The Beast Within takes us to the town of Chhand, where Hemant Kumar (Bhuvan Arora) gets to solve a case of a chilling web of crime. Hemant is not only a dedicated officer but also a responsible husband. But his life is shaken when he is assigned a case where there is a headless corpse, missing gold, and a vanished man, and all three things lead to one person, later disclosed. While the plot is predictable, it is at times difficult to guess the real criminal. However, if you are smart enough and are into crime dramas, you can figure out the real criminal.

While solving the case, Hemant faces pressure from the upper section and also deals with his personal life. However, Hemant does not lose his cool and continues to go with the flow. He also faces caste issues as he belongs to the tribal community. The whole series is about identity, caste, and power that abuses the lower caste people.

In the series, Kailash's character, who serves tea at the police station, highlights the difference between the upper caste and lower caste, and somehow Hemant's situation is also the same as both of them face caste discrimination in society. So Hemant and Kailash win trust for each other. While Hemant treats Kailash with ease, other police officers do not have any feelings.

Janaawar - The Beast Within, the series' plot aptly justifies the title. It's all about the choice you take, whether you want to be a good person or a bad one, because every person has good and bad traits within themselves. It is the 'situation' and behaviors of your surroundings that make you a bad or a good human. When a person gets involved in danger, survival is the only thing that comes to mind, and for that, the person unwillingly takes a bold decision that comes with a torturous consequence. Towards the end, when Hemant gets to know that one of his trusted friends has done several murders and also has hidden the head of that headless corpse, he handles the situation with a calm mind, and that's when Bhuvan Arora's acting talent shines.

Speaking about the writing and directing part, it feels slow till the third episode. However, after that episode, things take a serious turn. When Hemant gets to know the real criminal, he freezes, and so do we, but the directing of that part could have been more chilling. However, the effort is nice. The series is more about how Hemant handles the case with a human heart, but not like a rough police officer, which proves that if a criminal can also have a heart-to-heart conversation, if you show humanity.

Janaawar – The Beast Within Verdict

Directed by Shachindra Vats, Janaawar - The Beast Within is a refreshing take on how humanity can change a person, even a criminal. Although the series has a predictable plot, the gripping crime cases hook you into it till the very end, and generally, that's the beauty of a crime drama. On the other hand, Bhuvan Arora, as a dedicated cop, handles his professional and personal lives smartly, proving 'if you want to, you can.'
