Bangladesh kept their Super Four hopes alive with a thrilling 8-run win over Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi during the Asia Cup 2025. The contest swung both ways but it was Bangladesh’s discipline with the ball that made the ultimate difference.

After choosing to bat first, Bangladesh started cautiously. Tanzid Hasan Tamim looked confident and held the innings together with a well-constructed fifty. Despite losing Litton Das early, the middle order chipped in with valuable runs. The Afghan spinners, led by Noor Ahmad, applied pressure in the middle overs, but Bangladesh managed to post a fighting total of 154 for 5 in their 20 overs. The score looked competitive but certainly not beyond reach.

Afghanistan’s reply began on a shaky note as opener Sediqullah Atal fell for a golden duck. Rahmanullah Gurbaz tried to steady the innings, playing a fluent knock that briefly raised hopes for his side. However, wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals, preventing Afghanistan from building meaningful partnerships. Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain made crucial breakthroughs, while Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed kept the scoring rate in check at the death.

Needing quick runs in the final overs, Afghanistan fell just short, finishing on 146 all out. Despite flashes of brilliance from their batting lineup, inconsistency cost them dearly. Bangladesh will draw confidence from this hard-fought win, while Afghanistan will rue missed opportunities. The result keeps Group B alive and sets up an intense race for Super Four qualification.

Rashid Khan: We were in the game till the end but couldn't finish it off. 30 off 18 balls was very gettable. We have't played the type of cricket we are famous for - attacking cricket. We let a lot of pressure build on ourselves. The way we came back with the ball to restrict them under 160 was special, but with the batting we played some irresponsible shots. In T20 sometimes the opposition take the game away in the first six overs, but then you have to come back. Lots of learning for us from this game.

Litton Das: Winning the game was a relief, but we didn't bat very well in the last 4-5 overs. I felt there were enough runs but still we felt we were 15-20 runs short. The way Nasum and Rishad bowled was special, they really showed their skill. Today Tamim batted very well, the opening partnership was crucial. (On will he be supporting Sri Lanka now) I don't know, let's see.
