Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old Indian left-hander, announced his arrival on the international youth cricket stage with a spectacular innings against Australia Under-19 in the first unofficial Test held in Australia. Displaying remarkable composure and aggressive strokeplay, Suryavanshi smashed a brilliant 113 runs off just 86 balls, featuring nine fours and eight sixes, helping India build a commanding position in the match.

India U-19 scored 428 in the first inning

The Indian Under-19 team, after restricting Australia Under-19 to 243 runs in their first innings, opened their batting with an aggressive intent. The innings got off to a flying start, scoring 47 runs in the first five overs, thanks largely to the flamboyant batting of Suryavanshi. He began his innings with a boundary off the very first delivery, setting the tone for a vibrant batting display.

Indian skipper Ayush Mhatre provided some initial support but was dismissed early after scoring 21 runs off 15 balls. Despite the loss of his captain, Suryavanshi continued his attacking onslaught against the Australian bowling attack, keeping the momentum firmly on India’s side.

He reached his half-century in just 37 balls, highlighted by a massive six over the bowler Aryan Sharma, showcasing his ability to dominate the opposition bowling.

78-ball ton from Vaibhav

Suryavanshi did not ease up after his fifty; he continued to pile on the runs at a rapid pace. He completed his century off 78 balls, accelerating his innings with successive boundaries.

Eventually, Suryavanshi was dismissed for a well-crafted 113, having faced 86 balls. His innings played a vital role in helping the Indian Under-19 side reach 428 in the first inning.

Record-breaking Vaibhav

Vaibhav Suryavashi has now become the Indian with the most sixes in Youth Tests (15), going past Ayush Mhatre’s record of 9 sixes.
