In what is shaping up to be a crucial transitional phase for Indian cricket, especially in the wake of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepping away from the longest format.

Dhruv Jurel, who impressed in recent domestic and international appearances, has been named vice-captain and will also take on wicketkeeping duties alongside Ishan Kishan. The squad features a mix of youth and experience, with a spotlight on rising stars Harsh Dubey and Anshul Kamboj, both of whom received maiden call-ups after standout domestic seasons. Dubey was crowned Player of the Tournament in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, while Kamboj has steadily climbed the ranks with consistent performances in red-ball cricket.

The squad also welcomes Ruturaj Gaikwad, who, despite being sidelined from the ongoing IPL due to injury, has recovered in time to be part of this important red-ball assignment.

The pace attack, reflecting India’s rich fast-bowling reserves, will be spearheaded by Shardul Thakur and features the likes of Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, Khaleel Ahmed, Tushar Deshpande, and Kamboj. The spin department includes left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, off-spinner Tanush Kotian, and Dubey, all of whom have been consistent in domestic competitions.

Notably, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan are set to join the squad before the second match, depending on their commitments with Gujarat Titans in the IPL. The Titans are currently on the verge of securing a playoff berth, needing just one win from their final three group-stage games.
