As we write, India have bowled out South Africa and are chasing 124 runs to win the match. With Shubman Gill's absense, they'll only play with ten players which might get tricky if the team lose some quick wickets and the match goes too deep.

"Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day's play. He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team,” the BCCI said in an official statement.
Well, Shubman Gill's absence raises many concerns as he was the skipper of the Indian team. Now, instead of him, Rishabh Pant will be handed over the captaincy since he was the vice-captain of the team. His decision making skills and instincts are quite strong and he is the perfect player for leading India. With just 124 runs to chase, it shouldn't be a tough job for the Men in Blue.
However, South Africa do have some of the best bowlers in red-ball cricket who know how to keep the dominate the opponents. The home team will surely miss captain Gill on the field if the match gets tougher with time. As of now, he is under the observation of the BCCI's medical team who are monitoring his injury. Gill has been quite busy after becoming the captain of the Indian team.
He has played all the three formats of the game and is likely to captain as well. With Suryakumar Yadav's performance dripping in the T20Is, it will be interesting to see if the selectors will handover the captaincy to Gill or give some more time to SKY to prove his worth. The T20Is is the only format where Gill doesn't have the power yet. The fans should wait and see how the leadership roles change in the Indian team in the future.
