Rodrigues, a key architect of India's triumphant Women's World Cup campaign earlier this year with her unforgettable unbeaten century in the semifinal against Australia, had joined Brisbane Heat as their top international draft pick.

She featured in the first three matches post-World Cup, scoring 6, 11, and 20, before heading back to India for Mandhana's wedding on November 23.

Tragedy struck when Mandhana's father fell critically ill, forcing the ceremony's postponement amid emotional turmoil, including rumours about her fiancé.

Instead of returning for the WBBL's final four games, Rodrigues requested to stay in India, a plea Brisbane Heat swiftly approved.

Club CEO Terry Svenson described it as a "challenging time for Jemi," expressing full support and wishing the Mandhana family well. "We were more than willing to agree to her request," Svenson stated, highlighting the franchise's empathy despite their winless streak.

‘Just quiet solidarity:’ Shetty

Shetty, father-in-law to cricketer KL Rahul, shared his admiration on X early Friday, posting a newspaper clipping.

"Bumped into this article first thing in the morning, and my heart felt full. Jemimah leaving the WBBL to be by Smriti's side. No big statements, just quiet solidarity. This is what real teammates do. Simple. Straight. Genuine," he wrote, capturing the essence of true camaraderie.

The gesture has resonated across cricket circles, underscoring the deep bonds in India's women's team. Rodrigues' selfless act contrasts with her rising stardom, fresh off World Cup glory, yet she chose personal loyalty.

Mandhana, India's vice-captain and opening batter, faces this setback after a stellar year. Her father's health remains the priority, with Rodrigues providing unwavering support. Brisbane Heat, despite the loss of their star, affirmed Rodrigues' ongoing connection with the team.
