The final decision on who'll be leading the Indian test squad for the upcoming series in England has been made.

Team India has emerged to be one of the best teams in the limited overs cricket. Whether it's T20Is or the ODIs, the team has been proving its mettle against every opponent team coming their way. However, when it comes to the longer format, the team suffered two consecutive series losses, one against New Zealand by 3-0 at home and the other in Australia by 3-1.
Rohit Sharma faced lots of criticism for India's recent poor show in the test format. There were rumours of Jasprit Bumrah taking over as full-time test captain after India's poor outing at the BGT 2024-25. However, the recent reports suggest that the player might continue to lead India in the upcoming test series in England. The series will consist of five matches and will be played right after the IPL in June 2025.
According to the latest report by The Indian Express, the team management has shown full confidence in Rohit Sharma to lead the Indian squad for the upcoming test series against England.
“He has shown what he can do. Every stakeholder feels that he is the right candidate to lead the Indian side for the tour of England. Rohit too has expressed his eagerness to keep playing red-ball cricket,” a source told The Indian Express.
Team India recently won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by defeating New Zealand in the finals. Post India's win, Rohit Sharma cleared the air around his retirement and said that he would continue to play for India.
“Right now, I’m playing really well, and I’m enjoying everything I’m doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice. I can’t really say 2027, because it’s too far, but I’m keeping all my options open,” Rohit told the ICC.
“It’s something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there’s so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I don’t want to leave this team. The way we are playing at this point in time, there is so much joy, so much fun to play with all of them,” he added.
