CSK CEO breaks silence on MS Dhoni's role ahead of IPL 2026

MS Dhoni is set to play in IPL 2026, but the Chennai Super Kings CEO revealed that the final decision on his role will be taken by the team’s cricket staff.

The fan following of MS Dhoni is crazy. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) former captain, who is also one of the most successful captains in the tournament, is all set to play another year in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as confirmed by CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan.

Dhoni, who was present in the CSK training camp, attended India's semi-final and final match in Mumbai and Ahmedabad recently. After that, he headed back to the camp. When asked about Dhoni's role in this season, the CEO stated that it is upto the management to decide whether he'll play as an impact player, a batsman, or wicketkeeper-batter.

"He will play all the matches, according to me. That I cannot say. The cricket staff will make that decision. Not by the administrative personnel. They will determine whether he will play as an impact player, a batsman, or a wicketkeeper-batter,” Viswanathan said.

CSK CEO also revealed his happiness as Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube performed well for the team. After winning the T20 World Cup, both players went back to their respective hometowns and will join the camp soon. CSK is one of the most successful teams with five trophies. However, there performance has gone down after Ruturaj Gaikwad claimed the captaincy.

“I am very happy that the Indian team has won back-to-back World Cups, and we are also delighted because two of our CSK players, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, did extremely well… This gives a lot of confidence that they’ll do well for our team CSK as well,” Viswanathan said.

The IPL committee is likely to release the schedule today but for the first few matches because of the assembly elections. But reports suggest that the opening match will be between RCB and SRH. Moreover, CSK are likely to play against RR in their first encounter this season.
