Deepti Sharma makes history as Women’s T20I’s leading wicket-taker after Sri Lanka series

India’s Deepti Sharma became the all-time leading wicket-taker in women’s T20Is during a dominant 5-0 series whitewash over Sri Lanka, etching her name in cricket history.

India’s star all-rounder Deepti Sharma etched her name into the record books during the recent women’s T20I series against Sri Lanka, becoming the all-time leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20 International cricket. In the fifth and final T20I in Thiruvananthapuram, Deepti claimed her 152nd T20I wicket, surpassing Australia’s Megan Schutt to top the global list.

The milestone came at a crucial moment of the match when Deepti trapped Nilakshika Silva leg-before to claim the record-breaking dismissal. With 152 wickets in just 133 matches, she now stands head-and-shoulders above her peers and the first Indian woman to lead the all-time T20I wicket list.

She has been one of the consistent performers for India. While she currently tops the T20I list, she continues to close in on the overall international wicket record held by India’s Jhulan Goswami, underlining her enduring impact on the sport.

India whitewash SL in T20I series

India capped off the T20I series, whitewashing Sri Lanka 5-0 to end the year on a high note. The dominant performance was characterised by all-around excellence, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur leading from the front with a crucial 68 in the final game and contributions from both senior stars and emerging talent.

Consistent batting efforts helped India post competitive totals in the series, while the bowling unit, spearheaded by Deepti Sharma, suffocated Sri Lanka throughout. India won the final game by 15 runs and hence, whitewashed the series. For an incredible performance in the last match, Harmanpreet Kaur won the Player of the Match award. Meanwhile, Shafali Verma won the Player of the Series award.
