Duleep Trophy 2025: Ishan Kishan to lead the East Zone team, Shami to play

Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been named as the captain of the East Zone team as the BCCI gets set to start the 2025-26 domestic season with the Duleep Trophy 2025. Duleep Trophy 2025 will start from 28th August and continue till 11th September 2025.

Ishan Kishan to lead the East Zone team

Ishan Kishan, who recently played for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship 2025, will lead the East Zone side. Kishan had featured for Jharkhand in the last domestic season, after losing the BCCI central contract as he opted out of playing domestic games the season before that.

Meantime, Abhimanyu Easwaran, who will return to Indian after not finding a place in any of the five tests against England, has been chosen as the vice-captain of the squad.

Mohammed Shami to play in Duleep Trophy

Star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, who was not picked for the England tour due to a fitness issue, has not played a Test match since the 2023 World Test Championship Final, and will be auditioning to get a place in the home season.

Alongside Shami, Mukesh Kumar, who was dropped from the Indian test team, has also been named in the squad. Akash Deep will also be featuring for the East Zone in the tournament.
