The series marks a significant shift in leadership dynamics for both camps. Harry Brook fresh off a redemption-arc century in the final ODI, will lead a new-look England side.

Having weathered a difficult period following the Ashes, Brook looks to solidify his captaincy credentials on the slow, turning tracks of the subcontinent.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka has returned to a familiar face, with Dasun Shanaka taking back the T20I captaincy from Charith Asalanka.

After a mixed run in 2025, the Lankans are looking to utilize their home advantage, familiar humidity, and spin-friendly surfaces to dismantle the high-flying English batting order.

Phil Salt has been in scintillating form, striking at over 170 in recent T20Is. His ability to tackle Theekshana’s "mystery" in the Powerplay will set the tone for England's innings. This battle between Salt and Theekshana might be the one to watch out for.

In the meantime, Pathum Nissanka, who was the standout performer in the ODIs, will be facing the raw pace and variations of a returning Jofra Archer, which will be his toughest challenge yet.

Along with these battles, the spin battle between Adil Rashid and Rehan Ahmed on one side and Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage on the other might give both teams a great lookout before the T20 World Cup in India, which is nearly a week away.

    Possible XIs

England XI: Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Rehan Ahmed, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Luke Wood.

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Janith Liyanage, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Matheesha Pathirana.
