Robert Lewandowski, the star striker of Barcelona, recently rejected an extraordinary offer worth over €100 million per year from a Saudi Arabian club, according to his agent Pini Zahavi. Despite the lucrative proposal, Lewandowski chose to stay at Barcelona, reaffirming his commitment to the club and playing in Europe.

His decision was driven by his desire to compete in La Liga and the Champions League rather than move to the Middle East, where foreign player limits also restrict opportunities.

Lewandowski joined Barcelona in 2022 from Bayern Munich on a four-year contract worth around €45 million initially, with a release clause set at a staggering €500 million. The deal included a unique clause allowing Barcelona to cancel the contract before its expiry in June 2026 if Lewandowski did not play over 60% of games in the 2024/25 season.

Robert Lewandowski’s agent emphasized that Barcelona is Lewandowski's "place on earth" where he feels most comfortable. The offer from Saudi Arabia was made about a year ago, and despite the financial temptation, Lewandowski preferred to fight for titles with Barcelona.

"A year ago, he received a concrete offer. They offered him more than €100 million per season. Per season! But he preferred to fight for La Liga and the Champions League. And he almost achieved both goals," Lewandowski's agent Zahavi said.

Last season, he scored an impressive 42 goals in 52 appearances proving his importance to the team.

While he has ruled out Saudi Arabia for now, there remains speculation that Lewandowski might consider a move there in the future, potentially when his Barcelona contract expires next summer.

What's next for Lewandowski and FC Barcelona?

FC Barcelona will start their La Liga campaign on 16th August against Mallorca, away from home. However, since Lewandowski has sustained a hamstring injury, he might not be available for the first match.
