IND vs SA 2nd Test: India fail to avoid follow-on; South Africa opt to bat again

India fail to avoid the follow-on, allowing South Africa to bat again and strengthen their advantage in the ongoing Test match.

Team India are playing against South Africa in the second test match in Guwahati. After South Africa scored 489 runs in the first innings, India responded with just 201 runs. The batting order fell like a pack of cards, just like how the bowlers failed in the first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar were the only players who managed to cross the 30-run mark. The rest of the batters failed miserably.

While Jaiswal scored 58 of 97 balls, including seven boundaries and one six, score 48 of 92. However, the most interesting performance was from Kuldeep Yadav, who played the highest balls by an Indian in the innings. He scored 19 runs in 134 balls, including three boundaries. For South Africa Marco Jansen claimed six wickets, while Simon Harmer claimed three wickets.

South African bowling attack completely dominated the Indian bats which is quite embarrassing considering the fact that the matches happening in India. India failed to avoid the follow on but South Africa Captain had a chat with the rest of the team and decided to bat again. They didn’t enforce the follow on on the Indian team which was a bit shocking to the fans. South Africa had a good chance to win the game by an innings but the fans will have to wait and see what the new strategy might be.

Interesting records that have happened in 2nd Test:

There are some interesting records that were broken in the ongoing India vs. South Africa 2nd Test match. Marco Jansen is just the third left-arm quick to bag a Test five-fer in India since 1988, after Zaheer Khan (thrice) and Mitchell Johnson (Mohali, 2010), the latter being the last such instance before today. Aiden Markram bagged five catches in the innings, a joint record in Tests alongside 16 other instances, and matched only by Graeme Smith (vs Australia, WACA, 2012) among South African players.
