India vs England 3rd Test final day: The Lord’s test is tantalisingly poised, with Shubman Gill and team chasing 193 for a historic win

The Lord’s test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar trophy is tantalisingly poised with India chasing 193 to win against Ben Stokes’ pumped-up England team. The fourth day of the third test in the series was as action and drama-packed as can be, with Shubman Gill’s team bundling out the home team for just 192, thanks to Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah.

India, having set an achievable target, got off to a terrible start with their southpaw opener Yashasvi Jaiswal falling for 0, trying to flatbat a wide and pacy delivery of Jofra Archer. Some resilience from Karun Nair and KL Rahul helped steady the nerves, till Brydon Carse removed Nair as well as Gill - both LBW - of inswinging deliveries.
Just like the end of Day 3, drama unfolded when nightwatchman Akash Deep and Rahul united for the final two overs of the day, with the former having to receive ‘treatment’ for being struck on the thigh in the penultimate over of the day. England captain Stokes, however, had the last laugh - sending the stumps cartwheeling to remove Deep off the final delivery of the day, and leaving India stranded at 58/4 and needing a further 135 runs to win in what would be testing conditions on the final day at Lord’s.
The Indian players will have to brace themselves for overcast conditions at Lord’s on the final day, with Carse, Chris Woakes and Stokes - and add to that Archer - looking at ending the game early for the home team.
India’s resistance, and push for win, will mainly depend on Rahul, who is on 33 and would be hoping to finish off a memorable test as part of the winning side, as well as Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Sundar could also contribute with the bat in the second innings to close out the four wickets he claimed on Day 3.
