Although India have been slight favourites after their recent home series victory over the Blackcaps before the World Cup, they have never beaten the Kiwis in a T20 World Cup match.

2007 T20 World Cup: New Zealand won by 10 runs

In the inaugural edition of the tournament, India were flying high until they met a New Zealand side led by the tactical intelligence of Daniel Vettori.

New Zealand posted 190 in Johannesburg as Brendon McCullum scored a fiery 45 off 31 balls at the top of the order. Craig McMillan also added 44 off 23 balls batting in the middle order.

During the chase, India looked comfortable at 76/1, but it was Daniel Vettori's 4/20 in 4 overs that helped New Zealand win by 10 runs despite a 51 off 33 balls from Gautam Gambhir.

2016 T20 World Cup: New Zealand won by 47 runs

Playing on home soil in Nagpur, India were expected to breeze past the Kiwis on a "square turner" during the 2016 T20 World Cup. However, it was New Zealand who made India taste their own medicine as they defeated the home side by 47 runs.

After choosing to bat first, New Zealand scored only 126, and India looked to get a massive win. However, the Kiwi spin trio of Mitchell Santner (4/11), Ish Sodhi (3/18), and Nathan McCullum (2/15) took 9 of the 10 Indian wickets to help them get a famous win.

2021 T20 World Cup: New Zealand won by 8 wickets

In their most recent T20 World Cup fixtures in the 2021 edition, New Zealand kept their unbeaten record over India with an 8-wicket win in a must-win game in Dubai.

Trent Boult (3/20) and Ish Sodhi (2/17) squeezed the life out of the Indian innings, as India only managed 110/7, Ravindra Jadeja scoring 26 off 19.

New Zealand chased down the target with 8 wickets and nearly 6 overs to go, as Daryl Mitchell's 49 off 35 balls got India eliminated from the tournament.
