The former India batter took to his Instagram account and posted a story, writing, “True spirit shows up when the spirit is indomitable! Injury can shake the body but not the mind. Good Stuff!” These words mean a lot, especially when they come from a personality like Yuvraj Singh, who himself made a remarkable comeback after battling cancer. Pant pulled off one of the most gutsy performances seen in recent times.
The incident took place during the ongoing fourth Test of the five-match Test series in Manchester. The star wicketkeeper-batter injured his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes on Day 1. After which, he had to retire hurt and was taken out of the field on a golf buggy. He was taken for the scans, and it was reported that he would need a six-to-eight-week rest.
However, on Day 2, he resumed his innings on 37 runs and ended up scoring a magnificent half-century. He departed after scoring 54 runs, courtesy of a jaffa from Jofra Archer. However, during his entire innings, Pant was seen limping and hardly ran between the wickets. So, the concerns still remain over the seriousness of the injury. Playing with a fractured foot would only worsen the injury, and that’s why Dhruv Jurel has been keeping the wickets in place of him.
Pany may have shown grit, but the Indian team is in a dangerous situation. They were bowled out for 358 runs and the English team have already put up 225 runs for two wickets, trailing by just 133 runs. It is important for the Indian bowlers to bring the team back into the game on Day 3.
