IPL 2025: Why is Rohit Sharma playing as Impact Player?

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians are yet again having a great season. The team marked its comeback with six consecutive wins after a bad start in the initial matches. What's more interesting is the use of Rohit Sharma done by the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. The former skipper has mostly been used as an 'impact player' by the franchise.

MI head coach Mahela Jayawardhane has revealed the reason behind Rohit playing as an impact player' for the team. He mentioned that Rohit is carrying a slight niggle that he suffered during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Speaking to TOI, Jayawardhane said, "Rohit Sharma is carrying a niggle since the Champions Trophy."

During the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Rohit Sharma has been absent from the field when MI comes to bowl during the match. However, the player has looked absolutely fine when running singles and doubles during batting.

Rohit Sharma, who was initially struggling with the bat, has also started to get in the groove as the IPL 2025 season heads towards the playoffs. He has scored two half-centuries in the last three matches. This is a good sign for MI, as Rohit's contribution would play a crucial role for the team.

Apart from batting, Rohit has been continuously helping Hardik Pandya with field changes and bowling changes from the dugout. Despite playing as an impact player, Rohit has been guiding the team to success with his plans and tactics.

IPL 2025: MI to face Gujarat Titans in Match 56

The in-form Mumbai Indians will be playing against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, May 6, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both teams previously faced each other in March at the Narendra Modi Stadium, in which Gujarat won by 36 runs.

This time around, MI would like to avenge the loss and register the 8th win of the IPL 2025 season. Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, would like to continue their domination against MI by defeating them on their home ground.
