Chennai Super Kings secure Prashant Veer for ₹14.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction. Can the young all-rounder replace Ravindra Jadeja at CSK?

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are going to miss the services of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was traded to the Rajasthan Royals (RR), earlier this year. To replace him, the Super Kings have found a perfect replacement for him in the IPL 2026 auction. They have bought Prashant Veer for INR 14.20 crores, only to make him the highest paid uncapped player in the IPL auction history.

The left-arm spinner and batter, has played in nine T20 games, scoring 112 runs at a strike-rate of 167.16. He has also taken 12 wickets. The cricketer played in the UP T20 League where he impressed with his performance. He played in ten matches and scored 320 runs and claimed eight wickets. He batted at a strike are of 155.34, impressing everyone.

He won the Emerging Player of the Season in the UP T20 League and received the award from former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina. Moreover, he also attended CSK's trails and the management was quite happy with his performance.

“I would absolutely love to play for Chennai Super Kings because it’s my dream to spend at least one season with MS Dhoni. I would get to learn a lot from him, especially his calmness, since he also bats in the lower order, just like I do. There’s so much I could learn from him. If I get an opportunity to play for any team, CSK would be my preferred choice," said Veer as quoted by Cricket 900.

Is CSK looking at Prashant Veer as Ravindra Jadeja's replacement?

Not having a player like Ravindra Jadeja is indeed a huge loss for CSK but they have somehow managed to find his replacement in Prashant Veer, who is also a left-handed batter and spin bowler. Moreover, Prashant is now the highest paid uncapped player in IPL history. This proves that the CSK management have seen something in him and went after him in the auction.

In the domestic setup, the young player has managed to impress the crowd and the management with his performance. However, at a stage like the IPL, he will have to prove his worth his consistent performance in the upcoming years.
