Liverpool FC has announced heartfelt and lasting tributes in honour of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva following their tragic passing. Since the devastating loss, thousands of fans have left flowers, scarves, cards, banners, and opposition jerseys outside Anfield, creating a moving memorial reflecting the communal grief experienced by supporters, players, and staff alike.

After consultation with Diogo Jota’s family, Liverpool has made the decision to retire the number 20 shirt permanently across all levels of the club, including LFC Women and the Academy, a first in the club’s history.

The thousands of physical tributes collected around Anfield have been carefully removed, with floral tributes being composted to enrich flower beds throughout club sites such as Anfield, the AXA Training Centre, and Melwood. Other artefacts will be recycled by a specialist company to help create a permanent memorial sculpture that will become a future focal point of remembrance at Anfield.

Supporters can continue to honour Diogo by having “Diogo J. 20” printed on the back of their official shirts, with all profits going to the LFC Foundation. The Foundation has pledged to create a grassroots football program in Diogo’s name.

To commemorate Diogo and Andre further, Liverpool will feature a specially designed patch bearing “Diogo J. 20” on player shirts during pre-season games, including fixtures in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and at Anfield. When the club launches its new kits on August 1, players will wear a “Forever 20” emblem on shirts and stadium jackets throughout the 2025/26 season.
