'Messi now has two bodyguards': Fans react as Rodrigo De Paul signs for Inter Miami CF

Inter Miami CF has officially signed Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul on loan from Atletico Madrid, who is known as "Messi's Bodyguard," with an option for a permanent transfer.

Inter Miami CF just announced the signing of Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul from Spanish giants Club Atletico de Madrid on loan with an option to buy the player permanently.

De Paul, who is always seen guarding Lionel Messi during their matches for the current World Champions, Argentina, is known as "Messi's Bodyguard". Messi, who already has a bodyguard off the field, will now have two bodyguards on and off the field, fans humorously said on social media platforms.

De Paul to Inter Miami: Full deal

Inter Miami has signed Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico de Madrid. De Paul will initially join the club on loan through the 2025 MLS season. However, the MLS club will have the option to buy the player through the 2029 MLS season.

The 31-year-old, nicknamed El Motorcito (the little engine) for his tireless work rate, will join the squad and begin training with Inter Miami ahead of their upcoming MLS match.

Inter Miami will pay Atletico de Madrid €15m yearly till the end of the loan.

“What brings me to Inter Miami is the desire to compete, win titles, to write the pages in the Club’s history,” De Paul stated.

“It's a Club that is shaping up to be great, to have a long history, so that many people follow this incredible team,” he added.

Rodrigo De Paul is expected to make his Inter Miami debut in the League Cup on July 30, 2025, against Atlas Guadalajara. He will wear the No.7 jersey for Inter Miami.
