Maxwell recently showcased his bowling potential by bowling two overs with the new ball in each of the two T20 matches against South Africa. In the first T20I, Maxwell bowled in the powerplay and got the wicket of Lhuan-dre Pretorius in the fifth over of the inning and gave away only 29 runs in his 4 overs.
He then followed up that with two wickets in the second T20I. He first got rid of Aiden Markram and then Lhuan-dre Pretorius but went for 44 runs in his spell.

His evolving role with the ball completes his versatility with the bat, where he has been adjusting to various positions in the Australian lineup. From opening the batting in the absence of Travis Head to taking on a lower finishing role alongside in-form teammates, Maxwell has embraced a flexible approach to meet the team’s needs.

Although Maxwell has been a bit hot and cold with the bat in leagues, he has always performed well for his country in big tournaments. With him failing with the bat, he can compensate with the ball. This will allow the Aussies to play a bowler less in the lineup and allow another batter, which can be influential scoring big runs.
Moreover, in subcontinet, he would get assitance from the pitch, which will mostly allow him to bowl his full quota of four overs as well.
